Commercialising innovations in medtech
Crucible Value Proposition
Speed to market, regulatory compliance and fitness for purpose. A faster return on investment.
What we do.
Crucible Medtech is a medical device developer and consultancy specialising in ophthalmology.
We work with doctors, patients, buyers and payers to understand clinical need, user requirements and market fit.
We work with inventors in universities and health boards to identify cutting edge innovation that can be taken forward into high-impact products.
We marry the need with the innovation and use our deep knowledge of medical device commercialisation to develop products that are clinically and commercially fit for purpose, compliant with regulatory requirements and reimbursable in their target healthcare markets.
Why we do it
Crucible was founded in 2015 by Peter Estibeiro, John Wigham and Steve Howell in response to a Scottish Enterprise review of med tech strategy for Scotland.
Peter, John and Steve are serial entrepreneurs with a deep understanding of med tech and life sciences commercialisation strategies and the role that effective, regulated design, development and manufacturing plays in accelerating a product onto the market, ensuring it is fit for purpose, and maximising life-time value for all stakeholders.
Our value proposition has, at its core, speed to market and fitness for purpose.

Our products and Services
Accelerating high impact products to market
Proprietary pipeline, ophthalmic innovation
Firstly, we are developing a portfolio of ophthalmic products themed around the early diagnosis, management and ultimate cure of degenerative eye disease. We identify and develop technologies through collaboration with leading universities and clinical research centres. We raise the necessary funding and manage the development, validation and marketing of resulting products. It is our goal to create a pipeline of three to five high-impact, Crucible-branded ophthalmic products reaching the market within the next five years.
If you work in university tech transfer and have a licensing or co-development opportunity that we might be interested in then we want to hear from you. Please contact us for a no obligation informal discussion.
Specialist consultancy, product realisation
Secondly, we support entrepreneurs and innovators by offering our extensive medical and life sciences commercialisation capability and international networks on a fee-for-service consultancy basis. This is tapping into the core of our value proposition, we understand customer discovery, regulation, reimbursement and both clinical and commercial validation. We can take a lot of pain out of the process, help build a strong business case for investment and make sure that your products are fit for purpose at each stage of scale.
